Oliver Steissberg is an organist, church music director, and collaborative pianist who received his Master’s in Sacred Music; Organ from the University of Michigan in May 2026. There, he studied organ with Professor Nicole Keller, and harpsichord and basso continuo with Dr. Joseph Gascho. Oliver graduated summa cum laude from St. Olaf College in 2023 with a BM in Organ Performance and minor in Collaborative Keyboard under the instruction of Professor James E. Bobb (organ) and Dr. Kathryn Ananda-Owens (piano). During his time at St. Olaf, he collaborated with all five official campus choirs, and in his last year, became both member and accompanist for the St. Olaf Choir under Dr. Anton Armstrong.
He is a versatile church organist and choir director, with experience in several different denominations including Episcopal, Lutheran, Congregational, and Catholic. His career as an organist and choir director have taken him across the US and abroad. Oliver continues to master his skills through his engagement with the rich musical community of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church of Ann Arbor, where he currently holds the position of Organ Scholar. At St. Andrew’s, Oliver works at a high level, accompanying several large-scale choral works throughout the year, conducting the choir monthly, and coordinating musical selection with the Director of Music.
Although he is originally from Davis, California, he has travelled far in pursuit of his passion for music and his love of the German language and culture. He was able to combine both passions after graduating from St. Olaf College, receiving the Martin Luther Schule Guest Teacher Award to teach English and choir at a Gymnasium in Rimbach, in the Hesse region of Germany.
